Revised recommendations released today by the American College of Cardiology are designed to help clinicians determine if, and for how long, Afib patients on anticoagulants should be taken off the medications before scheduled surgeries. The evidence-based recommendations address how and when to temporarily stop warfarin, other vitamin K antagonists, and the newer direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in patients taking the medications to reduce their stroke risk.
