Karius Test has raised $50 million to develop a novel technology that can detect more than 1,000 infectious diseases, without requiring the usual trial-and-error tests. The test is expensive at $2,000, and is meant for use in critically ill patients. The company's test doesn't cover all infections, but it can detect more than 1,000, including rat-bite fever, valley fever and streptococcal infections. About 50 percent of cases result in a definitive diagnosis.
