Managing Recurrent Septic Shock – Dual Blood Purification with CytoSorb and oXiris

This case report presents a patient with recurrent septic shock who experienced significant clinical improvement after receiving adjunctive treatment with a combination of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) using an oXiris filter alongside hemoadsorption with the CytoSorb device, which is designed to remove inflammatory cytokines from the blood; highlighting the potential of these extracorporeal blood purification strategies as supportive therapy in severe sepsis cases, even though large clinical trials are still needed to fully validate their efficacy.

Extracorporeal blood purification strategies were recently developed as adjunctive treatments for sepsis. CytoSorb is an approved medical device designed to reduce blood levels of inflammatory cytokines.

The oXiris high-adsorption membrane filter is used in continuous hemofiltration adsorption.
