Nearly half of all in-hospital cardiorespiratory arrests occur on general care floors; opioid-induced respiratory depression (OIRD) is one potential cause of these events. Dr. Khanna investigated the incidence of OIRD as part of the PRODIGY trial. Dr. Khanna is an associate professor of anesthesiology and associate chief of research at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA.
