According to a leaked government document that has been circulating on social media, it is estimated that up to 248 million people in China may have been infected with COVID-19 since control measures were lifted.

This number represents approximately 17.65% of China’s population.

The document, which appears to be the minutes of a National Health Commission meeting held on December 20th, also estimates that there were around 37 million new cases on that day alone.

These numbers are significantly higher than the official government figures, which only reported a few thousand cases for that day.
