ECMO Use in Pediatric Trauma: National Trauma Data Bank Report
sciencedirect.comThe findings of this study support the increasing use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) as a potentially effective intervention for pediatric trauma patients, including those with TBI.
While ECMO provides a lifesaving option for these patients, careful patient selection and close monitoring are required due to the associated risks of cardiac and renal complications.
Future research should include more recent, detailed temporal data related to the complications of ECMO.
This is a retrospective review of children ≤18 years who underwent ECMO therapy following trauma, recorded in the NTDB from 2007-2018.
