Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for poisoning in adult patients: outcomes and predictors of mortality
readcube.com
Data on outcomes from severe poisoning in adults receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is currently confined to single-center experiences or specific etiologies. While ECMO cannot facilitate toxin removal, it may have a role in cardiopulmonary life support in patients with refractory respiratory failure or shock following poisoning. The majority (59%) of adults with poisoning supported on ECMO survived, with survival approaching 90% in those receiving VV-ECMO for aspiration or inhalation injuries.
