Influenza-complicated thromboembolism (TE) among patients with severe influenza infection in the intensive care unit (ICU) is associated with increased risk for longer- duration mechanical ventilation, longer ICU stays, and 90-day mortality, according to study findings published in Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses.

Investigators assessed the associated risks and outcomes of influenza complicated TE among patients in the ICU with severe influenza.

Complicated cardiovascular disease, length of ICU and hospital stays, and 90-day mortality rates were primary outcomes.

Patients in the ICU with noninfluenza severe community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) served as a comparator group in measuring outcomes.
