Lower ARDS Mortality at High-Volume Intensive Care Units
doctorslounge.comFor patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), mortality is lower in high-volume intensive care units (ICUs), according to a study presented at the annual meeting of the American Thoracic Society. The researchers found that the prevalence of ARDS in the ICU was 8.3 percent overall. ARDS severity, measured using the Simplified Acute Physiology Score (SAPS2), increased during this period (52 to 58), while decreases were seen in ICU and hospital mortality (57.9 to 45.5 and 59.1 to 48.4 percent, respectively).
