The MAP-SEPS Protocol: A New Frontier in Detecting Early Sepsis by Targeting Microcirculation

medrxiv.org

The MAP-SEPS trial is a prospective observational study designed to determine if a comprehensive, multimodal approach to peripheral perfusion monitoring can improve the early detection of sepsis and organ failure in critically ill ICU patients.

Sepsis progresses to shock and organ failure due to microcirculatory and mitochondrial abnormalities. While current methods (like capillary refill time, CRT) offer single-parameter checks, the trial aims to assess whether combining multiple advanced measurements can provide a better tool for risk stratification.

The results of the MAP-SEPS trial are intended to advance bedside evaluation techniques, potentially leading to more timely and effective interventions for septic patients.
