In response to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak, the federal government is taking steps to protect the country.

Within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response is working with our partners to explore the development of new medical countermeasures and take other actions to enhance health security.

The purpose of the call was to provide a situational update and status of interagency efforts regarding medical countermeasures and the 2019 Novel Coronavirus.

Speakers discussed challenges, issues and next steps for enhancing our nation’s ability to strengthen its health security against this outbreak.

Representatives from the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), the National Institutes of Health
(NIH), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs within the Department of Defense (DoD).

The call was for the purpose of sharing information with the industry stakeholders so they can plan, prepare and respond as needed.
