SARS-CoV-2 predisposes patients to both venous and arterial thromboembolism, including ascending aortic thrombus.

The current guidelines for anticoagulation recommend three to six months of continuous anticoagulation for first-time, provoked thromboemboli, but the optimal duration for anticoagulation of SARS-CoV-2 induced thromboemboli is not well understood.

Further studies are needed to further elucidate the optimal duration of anticoagulation for SARS-CoV-2 induced thromboemboli.

Ascending aortic thrombus can be a complication of both severe and mild SARS-CoV-2 infection, and it can even be seen in patients with resolved SARS-CoV-2 infections.

While it is a relatively rare finding, it can carry significant morbidity and mortality and therefore should be a consideration in patients presenting with unexplained embolic events.
