The Care Step Pathway (CSP) described in this article was developed to increase awareness of the potential association of SARS-CoV-2 infection with invasive fungal infections, particularly pulmonary aspergillosis.

The case study demonstrates the utility of application of the CSP for diagnosing and treating CAPA in the ICU setting.

This educational tool can improve understanding of potential invasive fungal infections in COVID-19 patients receiving mechanical ventilation and facilitate an evidence-based approach to assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, leading to earlier intervention and fewer missed opportunities for improved patient outcomes.
