This study suggests that the use of β-blockers in sepsis and septic shock patients is associated with a significant decrease in in-hospital mortality and also associated with better patient outcomes.

As β-blockers cause hypotension and can deteriorate the patient’s condition, carefully curated controlled studies are needed to study the dosages, such as loading dose and maintenance dose, and how long they should be given for needs to be studied.

Further large-scale studies are needed to add β-blockers to the standard treatment regimen of sepsis and septic shock.
