Firstly, there was a lack of high-quality evidence on the impact of family presence during resuscitation on patient outcomes.

Secondly, family members had varied experiences with respect to depression, anxiety, PTSD symptoms, and the experience of witnessing resuscitation.

Thirdly, healthcare providers’ experiences of family presence during resuscitation were variable and were influenced by the resuscitation setting, provider knowledge and experience.

Finally, the resuscitation setting, provider knowledge and experience were significant factors influencing family presence during resuscitation.
