ICU RN Job Dissatisfaction, Burnout Linked to Moral Distress

Job satisfaction and practice environment are associated with moral distress among critical care nurses, according to a study published online Jan. 3 in the American Journal of Critical Care. The researchers found that 56 percent of the sample of nurses had less than 20 years of experience as a registered nurse. There was a modest correlation for moral distress with negative perceptions of the practice environment and patient safety. Significant predictors of moral distress were job satisfaction, practice environment, and the participant’s age.
