On review of the literature, it is abundantly obvious that an endotracheal tube (ETT) with a posterior-facing bevel and curved or tapered tip to center the tube on the scope and reduce hang-up is ideal for intubation over a flexible endoscope and that the use of the current standard ETT with a lateral-facing bevel should be discouraged.

The newly described Rescue ETT is a simple and safe device deployed with a simple technique.

The Rescue ETT retains all the advantages of the Fastrach ETT and as demonstrated in this article, offers several advantages over both the Fastrach ETT and the Aintree Intubation Catheter.

A clinical study is required to verify these claims before being introduced into clinical practice.
