Implementation of continuous monitoring of patient vital signs using wearable monitoring technology linked wirelessly to hospital systems was associated with a reduction in unplanned ICU admissions and rapid response team calls among hospitalized general medical and surgical patients.

These findings indicate the efficacy of this approach to patient monitoring on hospital wards, allowing earlier recognition, and more appropriate management of clinical deterioration of patients in the general ward setting.

Future research should also evaluate artificial intelligence predictive algorithms to further improve the predictive capacity of continuous monitoring systems. However, this technology is still in early development, and the added value is yet to be determined
