This paper offers comprehensive insights into the epidemiology of acute kidney injury (AKI), and we commend the authors for their significant contribution. They revealed an increase in the number of mild cases among AKI stage 1 that meet only the urine output criteria.

While we concur that their findings bear importance when considering clinical outcomes, we perceive several issues and potential misunderstandings when directly applying these findings to criteria for clinical practice and clinical trials.

The group which only met the urine output criteria for SA-AKI and not the creatinine criteria during the 7-day evaluation period follow a mild clinical course with limited clinical importance.

However, whether a patient falls into this group would be evaluated after 7 days of treatment, and the clinical significance of oliguria may change depending on the evaluation period.
